BenRichardson CeMap. Mortgage Broker and active UK Fire-Fighter explains.
My name is Ben Richardson, owner of Get Me a Mortgage Ben and Firefighter Mortgages UK. Over the last 13 years, I have created a business that provides advice to mortgage clients from around the UK. I am also an active member of the UK Fire Service as a Crew Manager. I love both my jobs, both for very different reasons. Anyone that’s part of the UK Fire Service and employed by them is part of something special and, I believe we are all one big family, there to help and support each other. That’s why I launched Firefighter Mortgages UK.
If you work for or have an immediate family member that works for the UK Fire Service in any capacity then you will qualify for the discounts and benefits that Firefighter Mortgages UK can offer. Use my website Get Me a Mortgage Ben to find advice, tips and support. Make sure that you mention to us your link to the UK Fire Service and, we will give you a discount on our fee. We will also contribute a percentage of our profits from your mortgage towards the UK Firefighters Charity.
We have decided to contribute a percentage of our profits from each case that completes to support the firefighter’s charity.
Owner of Firefighter Mortgages UK, Ben Richardson, decided in 2019 to find a way to help support the firefighter’s charity. After washing cars and shaking tins in the past to raise funds, he wanted to do something different. He spoke to his accountant and they came up with a plan. Ben decided to gift a share of the profits from each mortgage case that completes to the charity. His aim is to make the charity £100,000 from firefighter and their immediate family’s mortgages. But he needs your help. Ben wants to try and contribute approximately £100 per case towards the charity. His aim is to complete a thousand mortgages, therefore raising £100,000. If you have a mortgage, need a new one or can recommend a friend then start a conversation and help him reach his goal.
"At every incident the greater the potential benefit of fire and rescue actions, the greater the risk that is accepted by commanders and firefighters. Activities that present a high risk to safety are limited to those that have the potential to save life or to prevent rapid and significant escalation of the incident.”
Every firefighter in the UK should know the maxim, this balance of risk and understanding of it, is what will and can save your life. As firefighters we can, and do take huge risks. But we don’t need to do that with our finances.
We don’t want to imagine the worst, but we have to face it and most importantly be prepared for it. Losing loved ones, becoming critically ill, being unable to work through sickness, illness, injury or disability can have devastating financial consequences.
Our team will put together a tailored first-class portfolio to help you manage finances should the worst happen.
The length of a mortgage, otherwise known as the term, is unusually capped by your retirement age.
Many lenders will offer mortgages up to age 70, without requiring evidence of affordability into retirement. For active serving firefighters, the usual retirement age can be around 60, if not before. However, some fire brigades allow firefighters to work beyond this either in alternative departments or in another role. Some lenders understand this and are happy to lend up to age 70 for firefighters. If you feel that you will retire at age 70, or may potentially work up until this age, then please ensure that you state this at point of application or when we ask the question as part of your fact find.
If you plan to retire before 70 and wish to extend your mortgage term into retirement, we will require evidence of affordability, such as a pension statement. We may also refer you on to one of our colleagues or partners to discuss later life borrowing.
For further advice please contact one of our team.
If you’re a paid, on call firefighter then you may be able to use this income towards your mortgage application.
Lenders will consider every bit of your income towards your affordability assessment with them. This income could make the difference in making the mortgage affordable or not. All lenders have different criteria and will assess this income in different ways. We will use are expertise to position you in the mortgage market based on your individual circumstances and to best take advantage of every lender available to you from our panel.
For more information on affordability and criteria speak to us.
For active service staff of the UK Fire Service, we will offer you a discount on our fee whilst also contributing a proportion of our commission from your mortgage product towards the Fire Fighter’s Charity.
Mention that you work for the Fire Service in the UK and we will take care of the rest.
